Description
Eglė, Queen of Serpents takes its title from the Lithuanian myth in which the sea foams milk if a loved one is alive, and blood if they have died. The work is made by training a GAN on images of water and plastic, letting the two drift into one another through abstraction until the imagery belongs fully to neither. Water becomes a threshold space here, the point where the natural and the man-made collide, holding an ancient story about loss inside a contemporary one about pollution. The red that enters the image echoes the myth’s blood-foam, a trace of something that didn’t return.
